Pardon our Dust

I’m having someone import old blog entries to WordPress. Things might be a little wonky for a week or two but all will be well shortly.

Rentacoder WordPress Import

I submitted my first job to Rentacoder.com to have someone convert my old journal to WordPress…

At the conclusion of the project, all of the journal entries that currently reside in these 10 journal pages (http://lee.org/journal/) will have been imported into this WordPress blog (http://lee.org/blog/)…

So far, it’s going well. I put a max of $200 on the job and after just a few hours, I’ve gotten several offers at about $150. We’ll find out if any of them will actually work out.

Upcoming Weekend Fun

Tonight, seeing either The Gong Show at the Dark Room or my friend Shameless Heather in “Take me for a Ride”. And then maybe go to the Purple Friday Show late. :-)

Saturday morning Tango class! And likely the Metronome’s Tango Milonga in the evening!

Sunday see Naqoyqatsi with Philip Glass LIVE at Davies Symphony Hall! The closest I’ve ever seen him live thus far has been on Southpark.

Monday: nuffum :-)

I Don’t Get it: Blasphemy

Sure, it might ruffle some feathers, but come on, chill a little. Right?

Is this fatwa-worthy?

An Italian Deli Right Down the Street

2 blocks from me there is a really good Italian Deli. 4 guys with aprons behind the counter cut prosciutto, 25 different cheeses (only Italian varieties, mind you), all manner of cold cuts, and pizza and focaccia sold by the sheet or 1/2 baking sheet.

They even have several types of imported torrone. I immediately flashed back to fresh torrone from Boston’s North End. It was like the original Snickers bar. After I made my purchase, I asked the man behind the counter if they had such torrone and a woman next to me nodded and pointed to the box of said torrone that was on top of her stack of items being purchased. The man said (and I’m very happy he was so knowledgeable!) that he had small squares of the stuff but not the bars.

This is why San Francisco is an expensive city. Delicacies are so close at hand that it is hard to resist!

I called Carlotta and asked her to bring some fresh Boston torrone when she visits next week. She thinks she can oblige :-)

I’m out of my storage space

Last week, I cleaned out my storage space. Everything is in my apartment or my downstairs garage. This makes me feel much more moved in.

I also got a snazzy bed frame and shelves last week.

Just a few finishing touches and I’m totally moved in! Rug, comfy chair, art on the walls.

Rediscover the Library

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of “Blink : The Power of Thinking Without Thinking” during my commute. It’s got powerful ideas. I highly recommend it.

But that’s not why I’m writing. I’m writing because I got the book from the library. It’s just like Amazon.com, only free. And it’s better than trying to steal it off the internet because there’s no fakes out there.

I suppose I have a big advantage here because I now live just 1 1/2 blocks from a library. And I know that the library isn’t free, it’s paid for by my taxes. But Blink is still a really good book. And I’ve got a small pile of books, CDs and DVDs next to me about my upcoming vacation to England, all from the library. :-)

Mollescum Contagiosum Question

I had a dermatologist remove a mild case of mollescum contagiosum.

It’s been said that burning them off causes less scarring than freezing them, mostly because the heat can be applied with greater precision. The downside is that burning hurts a lot for a few moments, while freezing is only mildly uncomfortable.

He said that he didn’t want to burn them off with heat because of the potential danger to both of us by putting the virus in the air via the smoke during the operation.

After he went ahead and froze it off and left the office, I thought of a question. Why not simply use a vacuum and air filter to pull contaminated air away from the burn site? Surely such simple safety measures are available.

I think he didn’t want to burn it off because he doesn’t own a heat-burner-thing. Hmm.

Tango!

I just got back from Argentine Tango practica (I’m taking a 4 week course at Metronome).

I understand how someone might feel strongly that some types of music and dance are disgustingly barbaric. As I took my partner into my hands, I was struck intensely with how delicate and sensitive an instrument my partner’s body is. At the first touch, when my brain told my body “dance now” it wanted to do that crude American swaying waltz where we lean into one another and push one another around the dance floor. My dance partner Andrea, being an excellent dancer and the class instructor, was so sensitive to my every nuanced move that I immediately felt as if I would rattle her apart if I asked her to ride this coarse energy flow. Like plugging a 110 volt lightbulb into a 220 volt outlet!

Once I got going, the dance was terrific. Just walking around the room can be real dance. I have many contented bubbles of thought and feeling about how pleasant dance can be. Rather than push them out to my fingers, I’m going to go to sleep with a smile on my face.

Thank you Peggy and Benn[something (grr, my memory!)] for the excellent dance and conversation! And to Andrea and the man who was happy to follow my lead.
