Installed NoSpamNX Plugin
I just installed the NoSpamNX comment spam plugin. Hopefully it will reduce the daily drudgery of me deleting all the inane comment spam I get. Each week I have to remove 5-20 spams that make it through Akismet. And I have 1,500 comment spams that Akismet caught from the last 15 days sitting in my spam box. Hopefully that number will decrease.
After 3 days it looks like NoSpamNX is doing its job well enough. I’ve got 18 comment spams in my Akismet spam box and NoSpamNX has blocked 230 spams. And whenever NoSpamNX blocks a comment, it gives the user/bot a message showing how they can contact me directly in case it blocked a message in error; I haven’t gotten any calls about false positives.
It looks like about 8% of spam bot attempts are smart enough to get past NoSpamNX.
Damn, that’s a lot of spam…
Correction: I’m pretty sure NospamNX has stopped every comment spam since I installed it. It’s not stopping trackback spam. I can set it to act on trackbacks but I’ve been having trouble configuring it. I think that’s related to how I redirect my site… lee.org/blog redirected to lee.org.
